Hunger Striking Terrorist Alaan Back in Custody

maMuhmad Alaan, the hunger striking administrative prisoner who gained his freedom by hunger striking to the death, was released from Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon after being nursed back to health. The Supreme Court suspended his administrative detention due to his life-threatening condition following over two months of his hunger strike.

During the past weeks he has been recuperating in Barzilai Hospital. It was believed that once he regained his strength he would be a free man. During the hunger strike he was offered a release but this would have included accepting exile to another country for a number of years. He refused, explaining he would not accept any deal but would hunger strike to the death if not released.

Alaan was placed in custody again by another IDF administrative order before leaving the hospital on Wednesday morning, 3 Tishrei, and was transferred back to a prison facility. The arrest was made by Ashkelon Police and then he is being transferred to the custody of the IDF or ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet). Upon his arrest he announced the renewal of his hunger strike.

Ashkelon Police Chief Shimon Portal explains that Alaan was arrested again.
